Yes, this song can be connected to the popular James Bond series, but it also can be seen as an excellent theme song for this story. Adele's "Skyfall" contains many references to James Bond and his life as a secret agent within the lyrics. Although this proves true there can also be a double meaning to these lyrics. The song can be seen as talking about society as a whole rather than an individual. The song when observed closely, actually makes some references to my story. The first few verses of the song can be associated with the Mason losing his memory how he thinks it "...is the end." The next few lines of the song can also be referring to the Cleansing.
"For this is the end
I’ve drowned and dreamt this moment
So overdue I owe them
Swept away, I’m stolen"
These lines talk about how Mason has pictured this moment before and how he was captured and "stolen" from his everyday life and imprisoned. It can also refer to how REDCORP stole his memory. The following set of verses can be seen as referring to how Mason will rise again In power.
"You may have my number, you can take my name
But you’ll never have my heart"
These verses are saying how REDCORP can take everything from him, including his entire identity, but he will still have his heart and soul which are forever. It is saying Mason can rise from his weakened state with hope and perseverance and take down REDCORP. Finally, the chorus of this song is the most important part.
"Let the sky fall
When it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together"
The chorus refers to how when the sector faces its toughest times and REDCORP and the resistance are in the ultimate fight of "skyfall" Mason and his allies will stand tall against the obstacles that await them. They will face their world together in an epic fight for freedom and liberty in a dictated world. As the world around them crumbles, they will face it all and work to rebuild the pieces one by one as one ultimate force. I picked a rock cover of this song because I found it to be a bit more upbeat and dramatic than the original. It is a faster paced song with a powerful set of vocals and melody that I feel suit this hero story very well.
